Something fun, productive and profitable this way comes!

carrieMy friend Carrie Willard wrote me a week or so ago and suggested we have a Content Refresh Challenge on the Solo Smarts Forum and even volunteered to be our Challenge Hostess :)

“I love monthly challenges because after focusing on one aspect of marketing for a month, it becomes part of me and easy to implement, like a habit. Also, a month is just long enough to accomplish something substantial but not a long commitment.” – Carrie

I said Yes! I love Challenges!

I run the Stretch Yourself Challenge twice a year and refreshing and recycling content is one of the individual challenges that members can undertake in that.  It’s one of my favorites!

My blog here at Solo Smarts is now ten years old.  There is a whole lot of content that needs to be refreshed, recycled or just deleted and I love the idea of focusing on that for awhile.

I know I’m leaving money on the table by not having all the pages of my blog working for me – fully updated and rocking with recommendations, next step offers and affiliate links.  Refreshing my blog content, page by page, means my income gets a boost :)

When you think about that – do you get kinda jazzed to join us and spiff your content up too?

Carrie has suggested we focus on tasks like…
  • Replacing graphics or images that look “dated” or are no longer valid.
  • Add images to pages that have none.
  • Tweak or improve SEO (if it’s not ranking well, improve it or consider changing keywords to target another)
  • Make it more readable with subheads, bolding, etc. Remove dated-looking colorful fonts and other newbie mistakes.
  • Link to current content for better on-page SEO.
  • Republish content that’s evergreen.
  • Create a “top 10” or similar post consisting of links to your other content on the topic.
  • Add an update (like a PS but usually at the top of the post to reflect your current situation, it makes the blog seem more alive and keeps Google interested)
  • Change, remove or add affiliate links.
  • Pin old content (some of your stuff may pre-date pinterest).
  • Fix broken links.
  • Check for and add a clear call to action.

And this last one – I LOVE:

  • Improve writing (since our writing skills hopefully improve with time).

Yes, yes and yes!  I know I’ve come a long way towards developing my voice and my writing skills in the last ten years.

I’m going to add this idea:

  • Develop & add ‘Content Upgrades’ to your best content. (I’ll share more about this in the Challenge.)
